Educate yourself prior to the conversation

Would you ask a mechanic how to sew a dress? Would you ask a lawyer how to bake a casserole? You may also want to have a laptop or tablet nearby so you can look up any questions they have that you are unprepared to answer.

Anticipate the questions and be prepared with the answers

Over the years, we’ve heard every reason you can think of why someone may hesitate to address the problem. “Hearing aids are expensive”. “The problem isn’t that bad”. “I’m not tech-savvy enough for hearing aids”. There are always a million reasons not to do something, and you’re likely to hear a few of them over the course of your conversation. Keep in mind that while you don’t want to invalidate their feelings, it’s important to break the barriers by gently correcting those misconceptions. 

Accentuate the positives
